Sermon Series List

Life is full of challenges, difficulties and hardships. It is easy to raise our fist at heaven and say "why God why?" But as we look at the book of Psalms we learn how to turn our frustruation to longing. We may not find answers in the midst of suffering, but we do know that God is a God who brings deliverance. We learn how to ask not "why" but "how long?"

Everyone submits to some kind of authority. An authority is anything that has power over you. From material things to career success we submit ourselves to "authorities" that we think will make our lives better. But what if we submitted our lives to the one who truly has authority over all things? This series takes us through the New Testament book of Colossians.

If you want to know someone or something well you've got to go beneath the surface. You've got to go down deep at see what is at the core. In this three week series we revisit the core values of our church.

After Easter, Jesus came to his followers and told them what their purpose was: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit." (Matthew 28:19). How do we do this in an increasingly pluralistic society? How do we do this in ways that are respectful of others differing views? What does it look like for us to do this at work, in our neighborhood, and at home?

Have you ever picked up the Bible, read a few pages and found yourself thoroughly confused? Actually we shouldn't be surprised by this. Reading a few random verses or chapters is a little bit like turning on the TV in the middle of a movie and watching a few minutes. If you want to understand what is going on you've got to understand the whole story. Join us as we spend a couple of months looking at the over-arching narrative of the Bible. The Bible isn't primarily a book of advice, or instructions, or philosophy. It is primarily The Story that God is writing of which he calls us to acknowledge and in which he invites us to participate.

We all experience barriers in life. Barriers that hinder us from having something we wish we could have. Maybe you wish you could be a doctor, but you pass out at the sight of blood. Or maybe you would love to go to the Caribbean, but boats make you seasick. Or perhaps you are intrigued by Jesus. Perhaps you are drawn to the teachings of Jesus and the message of Christianity. Perhaps you have friends whose faith in Jesus is something you admire and have seen have a powerful impact on their lives and the lives of others. There is a part of you that would love to embrace Christianity. But there are barriers. There are things about Christianity that hold you back- questions that hinder you from moving forward. Questions like, "How can Christians claim that Jesus is the only way?", and "How can I believe that God is really a loving and powerful God when there is so much suffering in this world." In this series we are looking at the most common questions that hinder people from embracing Christianity- the most common barriers to belief.

Living As Missionaries

What is the purpose of the church? Before Jesus ascended into heaven he told the disciples that he would send his spirit upon them. Why? Just so that they could have the peace and joy that comes from knowing God? Just so that they could experience healing and deliverance from their own challenges and difficulties in life? No. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8. Missionaries aren't a special breed of Christians. As Charles Spurgeon said- "Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter." In this series we study the book of Acts and discover what it looks like to live as missionaries.

7 Ways To Miss Out

7 Deadly Sins

We tend to think that sin is simply things that God doesn't want us to do. But we miss why it is that He doesn't want us to do it. In this series we will explore what the church has traditionally called the seven deadly sins and see that the reason God is against sin is because in addition to being dishonoring to Him it is inherently destructive to our lives. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Anger, Envy, and Pride aren't just things God doesn't like, they are paths that if followed will cause us to miss out on the fullness of life He wants us to have.

The book of Jonah

When most people think of Jonah all that comes to mind is a guy getting swallowed by a fish. Join us as we probe the book that bears his name and find a window into the very character of God. In particular we will see God's unstoppable, incomparable, unquestionable and available compassion for all who turn to Him.
